If you’re looking for denture pain relief tips, you’re not alone. Denture pain that you experience can be a frustrating and uncomfortable issue, but it can often be a temporary problem which can have a better answer. At Christina Brinda DDS in North Canton, our goal is to help you enjoy a pain-free, confident smile.
Based on Doctor Christina Brinda‘s expertise, here are some trusted denture pain relief tips we share with our patients.
1. Practice Proper Denture Cleaning and Hygiene
Denture pain has poor hygiene as a leading cause. Bacteria and food particles can accumulate on and under your dentures, leading to irritation, inflammation, and infections like denture stomatitis.
- Clean Nightly: Use a soft bristled brush and a non abrasive dental cleanser to clean your dentures every night.
- Soak Them: Dentures need to be kept moist to maintain their shape. Soaking them overnight in a denture safe solution or water not only cleans them but also gives your gums a much needed break.
- Clean Your Mouth: Don’t forget to gently brush your gums, tongue, and the roof of your mouth with a soft toothbrush to remove any bacteria.
2. Rule Out Allergies or Material Sensitivities
A subset of people may experience a burning sensation or irritation due to an allergy to the denture’s material (often made out of acrylic), certain adhesives, or even the cleaning solution itself.
If you suspect this might be the case, it’s essential to:
- Contact Your Dentist: Schedule an appointment to have a consultation with Dr. Christina Brinda DDS to address your concerns about your dentures and also a general oral health consult. We can help you identify the cause of the irritation.
- Consider Your Products: Pay attention to which products you’re using. Switching to a different brand of adhesive or cleanser may resolve the issue.
3. Eat Within Your “Comfort Zone”
Getting used to your new dentures takes time, and so does figuring out which foods are easiest to eat. Chewing too forcefully or eating hard, seeded, or sticky foods can destabilize your dentures and cause sore spots.
- Start Soft: Begin with soft foods like eggs, cooked vegetables, mashed potatoes, and yogurt.
- Chew Carefully: When you introduce harder foods, chew slowly and on both sides of your mouth to distribute pressure evenly.
- Cut Food into Small Pieces: This makes it easier to chew and reduces the risk of food getting stuck under your dentures.
4. Give Your Gums a Chance to Rest and Heal
Wearing dentures constantly puts pressure on your gum tissue. Just like any other part of your body, your gums need time to rest and heal.
- Don’t Wear Them Excessively: Leaving your dentures out overnight is one of the best things you can do for your oral health. This allows your gums to recover and reduces swelling.
- Monitor Sore Spots: If you have a sore spot, take your dentures out for a few hours. If the pain persists, call our office.
5. Consider Natural Remedies for Temporary Relief
For minor irritation, some natural remedies can help soothe inflammation. These are not a substitute for proper dental care, they can provide temporary comfort.
- Aloe Vera: The gel from an Aloe Vera plant may help with inflammation properties.
- Salt Water Rinse: Rinsing with warm salt water can help reduce swelling.
These denture pain relief tips can help reduce inflammation and discomfort.

General Dentist Brinda is the best dentist I ever been to . If you’ve been holding off going to the dentist, whether for just cleaning or getting wisdom teeth out , go here . The staff is so welcoming and friendly and Dr. Brinda is so knowledgeable and walked me through every procedure from start to finish and all the expectations. She is a perfectionist that wants you to look your best and goes out of her way to do just that . I went in for a whitening treatment and cleaning and it was the best experience that I had at a dental practice! I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to feel comfortable, well cared for and informed, while receiving best treatment for their smile.

Dr. Brinda is hands down the best dentist I’ve ever been to! My wife and I live in Michigan and we make the drive every year to go see her because she’s that good! Whether it’s going in for cleaning/whitening or taking care of a cavity, I always have a great experience going here. I’ve never really enjoyed going to the doctor for anything, but I can honestly say I enjoy coming here for my yearly checkups. Dr. Brinda is very knowledgeable and extremely professional, and she goes out of her way to make people feel welcome and cared for. Highly highly recommend!

Dr. Brinda and her amazing office team are lovely; down to earth and outstandingly competent. Their main focus, I have no doubt from all of my visits, is their patient’s oral health. This team is professional and efficient, but also what we all want in a medical team of any sort, very knowledgeable. I truly appreciate all of the care and concern this office has offered me. This is truly a top notch team and one you can thoroughly entrust with your dental health. Thank you to you all.

I personally was shadowing Dr. Brinda's office for my Dental Hygienist Program, and it was an amazing experience! Dr.Brinda and her wonderful team are constantly working to make sure things are sterilized, wiped down, and organized for your visit! There was nobody sitting around, but everyone was helping other people out! Staff at Dr. Brinda's office was respectful, sweet and supportive! Dr. Brinda personally took time with patients, and treated them like a person, not just a patient. She asked recurring patients about an update on their personal lives from the patients last visit, and it was amazing to see the patients smile when she remembered. Overall, from someone who saw behind the scenes of this office, I would gladly come there to visit just to see the amazing work they do. I highly recommend Dr. Brinda's Office!

I normally don’t make recommendations or write testimonials for services rendered. I expect and demand the highest patient care for my hard earned buck, period. I have been a patient for several years. Her team of professionals are exceeding my expectations regarding knowledge, kindness, skills, patient care, and my well being. Beginning from the initial phone call to schedule an appointment, through all of the facets of dental care provided, and processing the insurance payment, each employee earns a five star on my every visit.
