1. Initial Exam
Upon examination the dentist takes some x-rays of the area to prepare and plan for the implant placement procedure. This will strengthen your jawbone for the implant.
3. Final result
The last step is the placement of the permanent implant crown to the implant fixture. The screw is then placed with a torque-controlled wrench. Your dentist will then attach a new tooth to the abutment. The new tooth should fit and function like a natural tooth. Follow up with your usual home care to keep the dental implant and gum tissue around it healthy and clean. Also make sure to keep up with your regular dental visits.
2. Placing the implant
The implant is surgically placed into the jawbone. An initial pilot hole is drilled into the appropriate jaw site. This is then widened slowly to allow for the placement of the implant screw. Depending the location of the implant, a temporary tooth or appliance is made that can be worn during the healing process of the dental implant. The implant will need a few months to heal and integrate with the jawbone before a permanent implant crown is placed.
